Celebrating six decades of innovation, SIAL Paris continues to be an epicentre of the global food industry. Join over 285,000 professionals this year as they explore 400,000 products and innovations across 11 halls.
For 60 years, SIAL has been at the forefront of the global food industry, bringing together professionals, innovators, and enthusiasts to share ideas, showcase products, and shape the future of food. As we celebrate this milestone, let’s reflect on the remarkable journey and look forward to an even brighter future for the food industry.
A legacy of innovation and expansion
Since its inception in 1964, SIAL Paris has grown from a modest exhibition to a global phenomenon. The first edition featured 602 exhibitors from 27 countries in 13,000 square metres at CNIT in Paris La Défense. Today, the event spans 11 halls, welcoming more than 7,500 exhibitors and 285,000 professionals from 205 countries, showcasing over 400,000 products and innovations.
The journey of SIAL is marked by several significant milestones. In 1986, the event moved to Paris-Nord Villepinte to accommodate its growing size, occupying 80,000 square metres and drawing 88,000 professionals. This relocation marked a new era, enhancing visitor experience with wider aisles, rest areas, and improved registration and information points.
Global reach and influence
SIAL’s influence extends far beyond Paris. The establishment of SIAL Network has made it a global brand with events in China, Canada, Indonesia, India, and more. Each event carries the spirit of innovation that SIAL Paris is known for, fostering a global community dedicated to advancing the food industry.
SIAL China, launched in 1999 and now held in Shanghai and Shenzhen, and SIAL Canada, alternating between Montreal and Toronto since 2001, are prime examples of how SIAL has expanded its reach. More recently, SIAL Interfood in Jakarta and SIAL India in New Delhi have joined the network, further solidifying SIAL’s presence in key markets.
SIAL Innovation: A platform for the future
A cornerstone of SIAL’s success is its commitment to innovation. The SIAL Innovation competition, launched in 1996, has become a prestigious platform for showcasing groundbreaking products. Notable success stories include Charal’s Hebdopack in 1986, which revolutionised meat preservation, and Sojasun’s soy-based desserts by Triballat in 1988, which became market leaders in France and beyond.
The 2004 edition of SIAL Paris saw a record-breaking 135,000 visitors and 5,259 exhibitors from 99 countries, highlighting SIAL’s role as a global catalyst for food innovation. The event’s focus on emerging markets such as China, India, and Brazil underscored its international appeal and relevance.
