Connecting markets: IMEX Management’s role in expanding U.S. presence at SIAL Paris
In this exclusive interview, Eric Halsten, Chief Commercial Officer at IMEX Management, shares how his company fosters global connections and helps streamline the trade show experience for exhibitors.
IMEX Management works to increase North American participation in international trade events by connecting businesses with global opportunities. It provides a range of services to support exhibitors at international trade shows, including booth coordination, stand services, and public relations planning. The company also works with trade show organisers to deliver market research, recruitment strategies, and visitor promotion efforts aimed at enhancing participation and engagement.
Can you tell us a little bit about your role at IMEX Management and how you came into your current position?
I’ve been with IMEX Management for 17 years, and in my current position since 2020. Since I started with IMEX in 2008, I’ve spent the majority of my time working to recruit U.S. food and beverage suppliers to attend events like SIAL Paris and other SIAL Network events around the globe.
What role does IMEX Management play in supporting U.S. companies at SIAL Paris, and what impact have you seen from the USA Pavilion?
IMEX Management has been representing SIAL in the United States since 1998. A key part of that is organising the USA Pavilion in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. At SIAL Paris 2024, our 162 USA Pavilion exhibitors reported a collective $153.5 million in sales as a result of connections they made during the show. It’s exciting to see the small part we play helping U.S. manufacturers export their products.
IMEX helps American brands expand into foreign markets. What makes your approach to event management and market entry unique?
For over 25 years, we’ve built a reputation for making international exhibiting easy and hassle-free. Our goal is to deliver a seamless, stress-free, and cost-effective experience by managing all the important details—big and small—so our clients can focus on what they do best: promoting their products. If we can take some of the pre-event preparation off their plate so they can focus on their business objectives during the show, then we’ve succeeded.
IMEX Management will be present at SIAL Paris 2026. What are your goals for the show?
In 2024, we proudly welcomed a record-breaking 162 exhibitors to the USA Pavilion in Paris—a milestone we’re eager to surpass. For 2026, we’ll once again showcase four distinct USA Pavilions, featuring dedicated sections for dairy; meat and poultry; dried fruits, nuts, grains, and pulses; and a wide array of grocery products. We’re excited to spotlight the very best of U.S. food and agriculture to the world!
Are there any particular trends you’re noticing among international exhibitors wanting to enter the European or U.S. food markets?
In a constantly shifting geopolitical landscape, food remains a powerful connector. It tells a story about who we are and how we relate to the world. As American tastes evolve and embrace more imported products, international markets are equally eager to explore the latest U.S. food innovations. It’s a two-way exchange that continues to grow and helps to bring the world together.
SIAL Innovation will be celebrating its 30th anniversary. What does that inspire for you?
As a consumer and lover of food, it’s always interesting to check out the latest and newest food industry innovations and trends. SIAL has come to be known as leader in food innovation, positioned at the forefront of what’s new and what’s exciting around the globe, and it’s great to be a part of it!
