“In our company we consider workers the main driver”
In this exclusive interview, Carlos Valsangiacomo Gil, CEO of Cherubino Valsangiacomo, explains how social initiatives like free lunches and flexible hours have strengthened employee well-being. He shares the philosophy behind these actions and their impact on the company’s culture.
Your company has been selected for the SIAL For Change award, notably for its actions to promote employee well-being. Why did you decide to offer free lunches, and what role does this initiative play in your CSR policy?
The fact that the food is free for employees and is prepared by an external caterer and served in the warehouse facilities means that the worker can enjoy more time together with their families when they return from the workday.
The menu is also designed by nutritionists, which helps maintain a healthy life.
It is a benefit that is considered very important in our CSR according to our company committee.
You have also introduced flexible working hours in summer to protect your teams from the heat. How was this measure conceived, and what feedback have you received from employees?
These two initiatives demonstrate a strong social commitment. Is this human dimension at the heart of your company’s strategy today?
It was a test measure carried out in the summer of 2024, to mitigate the hours of heat of the day and anticipate the departure of workers.
The measure after the test was rejected by the company committee, which was grateful that it was carried out since it was an initiative of the workers and not the management committee.
In addition to improving the daily lives of your employees, do you think these social initiatives help to strengthen team commitment and create a more harmonious and productive working environment?
In our company we consider workers the main driver, and any measure that facilitates conciliation or improves the working life of workers is always welcome.
Our winery is family-owned and we try to bring that atmosphere to each and every one of the workers. When a worker is happy in his work environment, both he and the company win.
Through your selection for the SIAL For Change award, you are showing that it is possible to implement concrete and impactful social initiatives. What message would you like to convey to companies in the wine sector that wish to follow in your footsteps?
Any initiative that is good for the environment and the beings that inhabit the earth always brings a reward. The measures adopted to improve the work environment and take care of the people who make it up have a direct impact on the results of companies and society.
It is reasonable to try to take care of the land that supplies us with our primary products and the consumers who use them, with the greatest of responsibilities so that all resources, both human and natural, last.
