Nuhealth, the producer of healthy and innovative snacks from wholegrain brown rice, is launching its RiceUP! Brown Rice Bar range, which is available in half a dozen chocolate flavours. The bars offer many health benefits because of the novel ingredients that have been selected.

The new brown rice bars represent a new generation of snacks and a key attraction to consumers is their all-natural ingredients. Manufacturing involves minimal processing and the bars, which are made from popped wholegrain brown rice, are also gluten-free, GMO-free, preservative-free, palm oil-free and vegetarian. There is no added monosodium glutamate (MSG).

The RiceUP! Brown Rice Bar range is available in orange chocolate, caramel chocolate, coconut chocolate, dark chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate flavours.

The innovation comes from an ingredient called ProViotic, which contains probiotic bacteria that help to promote gastric health and immunity.

The bacteria, a type of Lactobacillus bulgaricus, are extracted from the snowdrop flower and grown in organic vegetable juice. They are naturally found in the human gastrointestinal tract and saliva, and have been safely used in foods for more than a century.

All ingredients in ProViotic are based on organic plants, and there are no artificial additives or flavourings included.

Ingredients to help promote health include added magnesium, an element that is linked to effective functioning of the nervous system and has also been associated with improved exercise performance.

In being gluten-free, and so ideal for people with gluten allergies, brown rice differs from most other cereals. Brown rice contains several healthy elements, including manganese, that help the body to synthesise fats and benefit the nervous and reproductive systems.

Also contained in brown rice is magnesium, niacin (Vitamin B3) and selenium, which reduces the risk of illnesses such as cancer, heart disease and arthritis.

Brown rice is particularly healthy because processing removes only the outermost layer, the hull, of the rice kernel. As a result, the nutritional value is much less affected than it is during the processing that happens when other forms of rice are produced. For example, when white rice is produced from brown rice, two-thirds of the niacin (Vitamin B3) is lost, along with four-fifths of the Vitamin B1, 90% of the Vitamin B6, half of the manganese, half of the phosphorus, 60% of the iron and all of the essential fatty acids and dietary fibre.

The high dietary fibre content of the Brown Rice Bars aids digestion and ensures that the stomach feels full, which reduces the likelihood of excessive food intake. Designed to be eaten on-the-go, RiceUP! Brown Rice Bars are 18g each.

As well as being good for the body, the Brown Rice Bars from RiceUP! aim to be good for the environment, as they are free of palm oil, the production of which has been associated with deforestation.

Brown Rice Bars are part of a wider range of products under the brand RiceUP!, which also includes Brown Rice Chips, Brown Rice Cakes and Brown Rice Rolls.

All of the EU-based company’s products are popped and not fried, and they share with the Brown Rice Bars benefits such as being gluten-free, GMO-free, MSG-free and not containing preservatives.
