Stepping into the world of SIAL Innovation on a gourmet food tour

Natural foods, ready to eat, semi-finished, halal, sustainable products, private labels and kosher. Visitors of SIAL Paris 2022 were in for a treat as they sampled the latest creations.

Exhibitors were not lacking in re-invention at the trade show, bringing a new wind to various markets. Pickled juices, activated charcoal, cannadibiol (CBD) and new protein substitutes were just some of the concepts at the heart of the event.

Innovations included balsamic based alcohol free gin from Italy, globe shaped sweets from France, seaweed snacks from Denmark, honey sachets from India, olive beer from Spain and Wasabi ice cream sticks from China.

Visitors toured the trade show floor and sampled the products selected for their creative flair, from beverages and confectionery in Hall 5 to the national pavilions of Hall 4 and the start-ups of Hall 6. Private labels were also entered into the mix, making up 28% of market share in Europe and 20% in the USA.

Winners across 21 categories were announced at the SIAL Innovation Awards ceremony in Hall 6, visited by France’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty Marc Fesneau. The Gold award was presented to Io’Dés by Zalg, for its easy-to-use crispy frozen seaweed cubes. The Silver prize was awarded to Fresh Frozen Wolffia by Make Me More, for its nutrient-rich water lentils. While the Bronze award was handed to Taragüi Maté 1st Experience Kit, by Taragüi.

French company Soon was awarded the Own the Change prize for its plant-based range of desserts. While the new Public Prize was presented to La Truitelle Ecological Conserves for its organic mountain trout in a can. The public award was introduced to the show in 2022 and allows anyone to vote for their favourite winning innovation.
