MURRAY’S CHEESE REACHES MILESTONE 1,000TH SHOP WITHIN KROGER STORES
American grocery chain, Kroger, has opened the 1,000th Murray’s Cheese shop in Kroger-fascia stores, taking the brand’s counters to more than 30 states.
Murray’s first began opening counters in Kroger stores in 2008, to recreate the customer experience the brand had become known for at its flagship Greenwich Village store. One thousand shops later, each one offers a curated product selection along with a guided shopping experience from an expert cheesemonger.
As an iconic New York City destination, Murray’s brings its authentic roots and decades of speciality food expertise to Kroger stores by creating a fresh cut-and-wrap programme. Dan De La Rosa, group vice president of fresh merchandising at Kroger, commented: “Murray’s continues to grow its presence with us, as food lovers enjoy discovering their enormous selection of cheeses and speciality foods. Our growing number of counters are ready to help shoppers make the most of the holiday season.”
At least 150 varieties
Each Murray’s shop carries more than 150 cheeses, plus charcuterie, olives, crackers and speciality foods from all over the world. Staff who work at the shops have completed the company’s signature Red Jacket Training programme so they are ready to educate customers about the varieties, identify best pairings, and suggest ways to cook with ingredients at home.
During the holiday season, entertaining and gift options have been increased; from truffle cheeses and spirits-infused wheels, to indulgent artisan chocolates and Iberico ham. Baked bries and cheese boards are prepared in-store on a daily basis.
A unique feature of Murray’s business are its caves (see video below) located in New York City, where experts age and develop new cheeses not found anywhere else. The brand’s Cave Aged line was recently honoured with several awards at the 2022 World Cheese Awards.
