SIAL Shanghai to help embracing agri-food business opportunities in China
The Shanghai New International Expo Center will host SIAL Shanghai from 23 to 30 May 2024. With an exhibition area of 200,000 m2, an anticipated participation of 5,000 exhibitors and 180,000 professional visitors from around the world, SIAL Shanghai is so far the largest food and agri-food exhibition not only in China but in all of Asia.
SIAL Shanghai is the must-attend event for professionals in the industry looking to seize opportunities on the Chinese food market. SIAL has established two significant food and beverage shows in China: SIAL Shanghai and SIAL Shenzhen. Next to SIAL Shanghai, SIAL Shenzhen is branded as “SIAL World Exhibition Interfacing with World Landmarks,” attracting global attention to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. SIAL management anticipates that the Shenzhen edition will attract over 1,500 exhibitors and some 67,000 professionals. An auspicious coincidence: both SIAL and China-France diplomatic relations celebrate their 60th anniversary in 2024
Back to November 2023, Yu Peishun, former vice-chairman of the All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives, stressed that SIAL could further play the role of a world-class trade platform, build a solid bridge for communication and connection between Chinese and foreign enterprises, and contribute to the high-quality development of the global food industry and the positive recovery of the world economy.
Replying to the former vice-chairman, Jo Cadilhon, the French embassy’s agricultural counselor in China, told his audience that the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France would also provide a broader international stage for SIAL China. This anniversary coincidentally coincides with the 60th anniversary of SIAL Paris this year.
7 Sectors highlighted and a multitude of events at SIAL Shanghai
SIAL Shanghai will highlight the following sectors: Babyfood Village, Organic & Wellness Village, Dairy Sector, Non-alcoholic Beverage Sector, Food Sector, Meat Poultry & Cured Meat Sector, Seafood Sector, Alcoholic Beverage Sector, as well as national and regional pavilions.
The concurrent SIAL Global Food Industry Summit will feature nine sub-forums, including the following: Global New Retail Forum, Food Supply Chain Forum, Import Food Summit, F&B Investment Forum, International Meat Forum, International Drink Forum, Food-Tech Innovation Forum, F&B Distributor Forum, and China Catering Forum.
Particular attention will be given to dairy products. Back in 2022, the Chinese Dietary Guidelines (2022) reinforced the importance of dairy, boosting daily intake recommendations to 300-500g and the sector is due to enjoy further growth. While infant dairy intake remains steady, adult nutrition dairy products are becoming a focal point for innovation and marketing strategies, paving the way for diverse product lines. Opportunities also come from urban centres where consumers are poised for exponential dairy consumption growth. Experts identify potential growth in fresh milk, cheese, and ice cream markets.
