Portuguese canning company Cofisa attended SIAL Paris 2022 to meet its partners and form new relationships
Producing canned fish products for nearly two decades, Cofisa is a company with a strong foothold in its market sector. The Portuguese outfit produces and retails products under the Cofisa and Vasco da Gama brands, while developing private label projects for major retailers across the globe. Cofisa said its products “act as a bridge between the best fish swimming in the ocean and the consumer.” Meanwhile, Vasco da Gama is a brand that offers “the sea at your dinner table” with a name that “evokes the essence and tradition of [Portugal] – a longstanding relationship with the sea and [discovery].” This brand represents the “Portugality” of Cofisa’s products, as put by the company.
With two production plants located in the cities of Olhão and Figueira da Foz, the company produces 7,000 tonnes of canned fish on an annual basis – a total of 125 million cans a year. Canned products include tuna, sardines and mackerel, as well as ready-to-eat meals like Californian tuna salad and canned codfish with chickpeas. Products can be supplied in pouches, glass jars or metal cans.
Cofisa also offers a range of tuna to the food service channel including tuna in brine, olive oil or vegetable oil.
The company is proud of its sustainable credentials with certifications from the Marine Stewardship Council, Dolphin Safe, Friend of the Sea and Pole & Line. Cofisa also said it innovates with canned fish production, using up-to-date fishing techniques and a prominent use of raw materials, as well as modern production methods and conversation techniques.
