BRITAIN’S MERMAID GIN OPENS UP US MARKET PRICED AT $34.99
Mermaid Gin, made by the Isle of Wight Distillery just off the UK mainland, has launched three gin expressions in the US market through Total Wine & More in-store and online, along with Park Street and Union Beer, part of the Sheehan Group, which supplies customers in New York and Long Island.
The three lines are the original gin, a pink gin, and a zest gin and each one retails for $34.99 (as a recommended price). In addition, the brand has secured listings with luxury cruise operators Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises, which operate out of Miami.
Xavier Baker, co-founder of Mermaid Gin said: “The brand has seen huge success in the UK and Europe and we hope to see it gain further momentum globally with the launch in the US. With gin sales volumes rising over there, we feel this is a good time to be launching Mermaid to US customers. We look forward to working with our distributors to grow the brand throughout the country in 2023.”
Sustainably made
Mermaid Gin, which recently achieved B Corp status with an overall score of 88.6, uses plastic-free bottles made from recyclable glass with sustainably sourced natural cork stoppers. The neck labels are made from recyclable, biodegradable paper and the bottle is also reusable and recyclable.
In addition to Mermaid Gin’s eco-friendly bottles, the Isle of Wight Distillery has engaged in local and global sustainability initiatives, including seagrass restoration. The brand is working with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust to monitor and restore seagrass meadows in the waters surrounding the company’s island home. It is estimated that 92% of these seagrass meadows have been lost over the last 100 years.
