Walki, a food packaging producer, has launched a new ranges of recyclable frozen food packaging products, some of which can be recycled with paper and others with plastic.

Two of the new offerings, the Evo Seal and Opti Seal ranges, shown above, are paper-based packaging products designed to be used as pillow-pouches for frozen food.

Also suitable for recycling with paper is the company’s Pack Tray, a board-based tray for ready-made meals that is designed to replace aluminium, plastic or plastic-coated trays.

“The tray is easy to fill, transport and store, and is also the convenient choice for the consumer as the fibre-based tray is safe to use in microwaves and in conventional ovens up to 220 degrees for up to 60 minutes,” Dudley Jones, from Walki’s consumer sales division, said in a statement.

Another product, this one suitable for recycling with plastics, is a film-based material for pillow pouches called Lamibel MDO-PE.

Thanks to the technology used, Walki says the thickness of the film is minimised, but performance is not compromised.

This product can be used for a wide range of frozen food, including vegetables and bakery products, in a variety of packaging types, including pouches and flowpacks. The packaging can be transparent, so that consumers can see the product.

As has been reported by SIAL Paris Newsroom, the frozen food sector globally is set for significant expansion, with China, for example, seeing 11.9% annual growth.
