Paraguay’s celebrated tenth appearance at SIAL Paris 2022 with record results

From one continent to another, innovative companies throughout Paraguay presented a panorama of raw materials, food products, and beverages.

The Paraguay Pavilion at SIAL Paris 2022 showcased 19 exhibitors, organised by government body REDIEX. Its main ambition? To demonstrate why Paraguay has potential on the world stage as a supplier of healthy and high-quality food products.

REDIEX selected the ‘cream of the crop’ best producers of raw materials, processed and semi-processed foods and ingredients, fruits, vegetables, herbs, dairy products and beverages such as mineral water, juices and nectars, plus producers of cookies, nougats, baked goods, infusions and sweeteners.

Paraguay is the world’s largest exporter of organic sugar and among the top ten exporters of stevia, soy and beef.

Manager of the food and beverage sector Gustavo Rodríguez Báez left the trade show floor with up to 30 new international business contacts. He explained how Paraguay’s biggest markets for chia are Europe, the USA and Asia while for grains, it’s Japan. The Middle East is significant for the country’s starch industry as well as Yerba maté.

“This was our tenth appearance at SIAL Paris 2022 and we have grown our presence every year,” Mr Rodríguez Báez said. “We began in 2010 with just four exhibitors and an area covering just 24m2. Now we have 19 companies from a wide range of sectors.

“We are really happy with the outcome. From the second day, we had lots of visitors expressing interest in doing business. It is the first time that has happened so early on during the event. After the pandemic, we feel there are more potential buyers who want to invest and do business face to face.”
